    Examiner: Capt. Shiva Bala Subramaniam
    Date: 10 March 2026 Result: Pass 1hr 15
    Important Tips:
    He’s a very good surveyor, he will try his best not to fail you unless you make a big blunder. Throughout the exam he was calm, helpful, and leading me towards the point he wants to hear. He had told me in the beginning it would take about an hour for the exam. Wherever I was going wrong he was giving hints, or came back to it after some time
    Questions:
    1. What certificates would you expect to find on a passenger ship if you take over as Master?
    2. How long are thee certificates valid for
    3. What documents will you check after joining onboard as a Master.
    4. SEQ survey intervals?
    5. What advice would you give to a chief officer regarding loading of bulk cargo
    6. Chief officer comes to you saying you have received 1000t less than what you should, what would you do as Master?
    7. Voyage from Trinidad to UK- what considerations would you have as Master
    8. Showed a picture of a weather chart- what kind of weather would you expect on passage?
    9. What would you specifically speak with chief engineer about?
    10. How does chief engineer determine how much fuel to bunker
    11. What can you tell me about a port of refuge, what do you need to go there
    12. You had to go to the dry dock for the repairs, w.r.t the ships stability for arriving to the dry dock what instructions will you give to the chief mate?
    13. Tell me about P force
    14. As the dock is emptying and you just touch the blocks, you notice the vessel is listing- what would you do/ consider as Master?
    15. Under a charterparty agreement what is deviation, which will be charged to the owners which won’t?
    16. Under Marpol annex 6 list all the documents associated
    17. Fire on your ship, OOW has already raised alarm and mustered crew, what considerations would you make as Master before releasing CO2?
    18. What ensures that crew are paid their salary and Repatriation and medical care expenses are covered?
    19. If a new officer joins your vessel, how would they know their watch keeping hours?

    22. Shared screen of vessel port side alongside berth with 2kts current ahead and wind 10kts blowing into dock. Port exit is opposite to your heading. Take a few minutes to think through your answer and explain how you would unberth.

    ROR:
    1. Restricted vis, shared a plot on screen and asked me draw it to add in my WO vector and show him. Target was on my port quarter. Explain the part of the rule that affects your and their action
    2. Good vis, identify the lights- CBD, Aground >50m
    3. Open sea, fishing vessel ahead with outlying gear going to port and on port bow RAM
    4. Open sea, tow >200m on port bow, you are overtaking a vessel on your stbd side
    5. Inbound channel heading 090, identify buoy and side to pass- safe water marker and region B preferred ch to stbd
    6. Heading 180, W cardinal on port bow, E cardinal on stbd bow
