Very quick check of documents and general questions about my sea service and company’s I had worked
for.
1. Explain the difference between 2 stroke cross head and trunk type engines?
2. Describe the function of the cross head?
3. How is the piston connected to the cross head?
4. How many bolts secure the piston to the cross head?
5. How do we tighten these bolts?
6. Locking methods for these bolts?
7. He asked me about using split pins to secure the bolts and reasons why we don’t use split pins, I
gave him around 4 reasons but still asked for more.
8. Describe the procedure for using hydraulic tools?
9. Explain the process for measuring the big end bearing?
10. Which bearing face would you expect to see greater wear?
11. Describe main bearing inspection?
12. How can we monitor the condition of these bearings?
13. Tell me reasons why you would conduct deflection before it was required by your pms?
14. Why is it important to measure deflection after collision or grounding?
15. You have installed new main bearings 400 running hours ago, you take a regular deflection
measurement and the readings show excessive differences compared to the previous, what
could be the causes?

produce the required power, what other factors could affect the performance?
