I signed into the meeting link 15 mins before and waited, the examiner joined about 5 mins late and introduced himself. He explained the rules of the examination and I gave him a view of my room, verified my name and date of birth and showed him my passport. He then asked what types of ships I sailed on and said ok for this examination you are going for Chief Mates Unlimited/ Master 3000grt, so you can be asked questions from any role. These questions are not in any particular order as I made this report some days after the exam.
1. Joining a bulk carrier as C/O, tell me everything? What documents would you give Master when joining?
2. Ok, you are with Master now, what certificates would you expect to see by the Master? HSSC Certificates. Which I listed out and then he asked me the Survey intervals for some certificates.
3. What is Llyods Open Form?
4. What is Scopic Clause?
5. What is Parametric Rolling?
6. How would you know when you are in the vicinity or a Tropical Revolving Storm?
7. How many quadrants are there in a TRS and how would you identify if you are in the Dangerous Semi-circle?
8. Bulk Carrier proceeding from South Africa to load grain in New Orleans and discharge in Saudi Arabia. Passage Planning as C/O? What information would you expect to receive from the 2nd Officer?
9. At night when asleep , 2nd Officer reported , “vessel collided with a FV” Action?….. How would you check that there is damage to your vessel?
10. In a Narrow Channel and helmsman report to you that steering is sluggish. Action?
11. What are the Ballast Exchange requirements? And Dangers related to Ballast water Exchange with both methods?Gave him everthing as per D1 Standards

You see this on your port bow, Action?… Examiner wanted me to go port for this situation. Later on he said I was reluctant to go to port though I explained why I went to Starboard. So be mindful of this if given.

Feedback
1. You were too reluctant to go to port for a CBD and a RAM in the situations given which shows weakness in your rules, so for this reason he had to fail me.
I hope this helps.. I did the report some days after the exam so I was not able to remember all the ROR situations that I was given but these are what I remember. He asked some other light and shapes questions also. -
