Result- PASS
After initial briefing for online exams procedure he proceeded as follows,
1) You are Master and going to take over a vessel. How will you proceed. (Started answering
from receiving call for joining)
2) He stopped me in between and asked what did you expect from Company Briefing. (After
this I resumed answering the original question)
3) He again stopped me at gangway and said there is dent/damage/crack at the ship side. What
will I do. (I refused to join at first, then he convinced me and asked me How will I take over
now) – I talked about Condition of Class, Load line & SAFCON certificates being affected.
Repairs to be complete before, taking over and departure – make ship seaworthy)
4) Went to master’s cabin and he again asked me about all the MARPOL certificates and
Documents you expect to find and what you will check in them (VALIDITY). (I MISSED ON
Annex V, he guided me)
5) As loading on tanker was going on – Precautions to take while loading more than 2 grades.
6) What entries I would check in the security records file. (Smiled when I mentioned SSAS test
report)
7) Then he discussed the incident between Ferry and Royal Navy Submarine In 2018. (Why it
happened and Corrective action)
8) Plan a voyage from Rotterdam to North America. (Departure port preps)
9) Precautions to take after departure port. (I talked about coastal navigation – all expects and
Heavy weather precautions for north atlantic)
10) He showed me synoptic chart with a LOW and where are you (Before cold front in the warm
sector) and about weather conditions you would face. (Wind speed & direction, Swell &
direction, rain gust)
11) Asked me about the weather I would expect In next 24 lvs. (I said it would be better as I will
not follow this track any more. Alter my course south, talked about company support and
we.tther routeing services. HE WANTED TO HEAR ABOUT FLOATING ICE WHICH I SAID AS rT
WAS SUMMER)
12) As proceeding south you get VHF DSC alert. (Action, reponlng, rescue in bad weather)
13) In the above I mentioned entering record in Official log book, Deck log book & GMDSS log
book, so, he asked me about entries to be made in OLB narrative sections.
14) Different sections in OLB
15) Approaching New York, MCA inspection for ISM, MLC & ISPS, prepare for MLC Inspection (He
was waiting to hear Display of Owners Insurance).
16) What is this insurance about.
17) I mentioned crew contracts (SEA) so he asked me about the contents of the same.
18) Started off with Lights, ROR situations and RV. (Listed below)
19) Gave me a North cardinal buoy and I was proceeding NORTH. Action
20) Then he discussed about crash stop, normal stopping procedure and turning circle about my
last vessel.
21) During ROR situations he made me explain Rule 8.F & 9, explain all the buoys.
22) Looking at the buoys he asked me which region you are in. Asked me lights for Preferred
Channel to Port buoy & what action I will take if I had to go in a secondary channel .
23) In lights he asked me how does Flag Z looks like – My answer “I DON’T REMEMBER”
24) Asked me what light a sailing vessel would show when propelled by machinery and day
signal.
