Blocked10/11/2021
1 Hour over teams app (teams did freeze once or twice but was able to carry on)1)General chit chat – Ships/vessels where i had got my oral prep info from what course had i sat and when. MGN 69 said this was now out of date as of the 1/11/2021 i didn’t know this (not a great start)
2)Started with CE handover, off going chief leaving in a rush what to check/want to see.
3) Went in to certification (all)
4) went back to the IAPP cert – who/where from what it covers, went through sox nox and ODS in detail, ask how we verified these parts as CE, ended up going into the EIAPP nox tech file and tiers for the nox. covered the primary way for sox been bunkering and that lead into the bunker note and specs what your looking for along with send samples off to labs for detailed analysis and record book and types of freon gases.
5)back to DOC and ISM certs valid for who by went into the ims code a little and the SMS touching on PMS.
6)Jumped to dry dock and bottom end inspection. Usual stuff here went front to back covering the basics
7) Prop checks and propeller drop reading how its done.
8) Rudder checks and clearances – went in to the pressure test want to know how this was done and what the actions would be if defect was found, who to tell and how to repair.
9) went in to NDT from here and different type we have
10) found damage on hull why inspecting, what actions to take again who and how to repair. told him internal check would be require to see extent of the damage would probably require a enclosed space entry and again went over class and approved repair and certified steel, coded and approved weld and welding techniques shell plating plan etc
11) Engine performance and how to check. Covered MCR, power card, draw card, sfoc and engine performance curves but was looking for more turned out he wanted the more basic stuff that we take all parameters regarding running so we can make full evaluation
12)Switchboard survey what when how often, went into HV here as that what my vessel is went through saftey and the usual stuff, he let me finish before asking and aiming towards the 440 boards – covered trips and PMS.
13) Asked what we do before switch board survey – heat camera/ infa red looking for hot spots and what this means
14) Asked where else we would use the camera??? stumbled a little here was sure what he was looking for so ended up going through a bit of everything more PMS/ standing orders, training and matrix this was all because of the way he lead the questions trying to aim towards the anwsere he wanted but i didnt know, but found out at the end that there is an IMO circ about lagging and fire risk and this was likely to be covered in the PMS as max temps are 220 degC and a way of testing would be the camera, i didnt know this
15)Class boiler survey from start to finish, what are we looking for possible defects. How as CE we can avoid the defects from happening (water tests)
16) was some more general talking but said i had passed and we went over a few more things i’d stubbled around on
I was very nervous though out and didn’t think the exam had gone all that well but that been said i got a pass and the examiner was very fair and patient with me and managed to steer me towards the correct answers that he wanted, good luck -
