    Online – Pass 1st attempt (2hrs)
    Experience: Tankers/FPSO

Logged in 10mins early he came on about 5mins later, went through the usual online rules and procedures etc. Asked me about my career to date and if I’d been involved in any emergencies.

    • You’re on a time charter and an incident occurs on-board, who do you report to and what procedures should be followed
    • You have a crew member causing various safety related concerns on-board, how would you deal with them but under what convention are they protected and still entitled to the basics
    • What do you know about VOC manual
    • Joining ship as master
    • Where do the familiarisation requirements come from (safety & security) and also the office briefing
    • What certificates would you take over
    • What is the validity and inspection frequency of cargo ship safety equipment certificate
    • What is the CSR, validity and procedure to get a new one
    • Parts of the IOPPC, specifically tanker related
    • What insurance certificates for tankers would you expect to find
    • Official log book parts
    • Who would you inform that change of command has taken place
    • As master, what is your responsibilities under ISM
    • You find mid voyage that a crew member has an expired ENG1 how do you deal with this
    • What drills would you carry out on board and minimum frequency of them all
    • Pulled up an image on screen of an ECDIS with a vessel crossing 10m safety contour, my draft is 10.2m, 2/0 panicking and calls at 3am, he stressed this wasn’t an emergency scenario but wanted my actions and considerations
    • Emergency situation now, you are aground
    • What is the difference between GT, NT, DWT
    • Buoyage: tell me what the buoy indicates, its light and your actions heading inbound on 090
    Safe water mark
Region B preferred channel to port
Region B port hand lateral mark
    North cardinal
    Isolated danger
    East Cardinal
    • Lights: tell me the vessel, day shape, fog signal and actions if seen right ahead
F/V port side with outlaying gear
    RAM astern
    PDV towing >200m stbd side
    CBD stbd side
    Around stbd side
    RAM, dredger, end on
    • Rules: actions and under what rule
    CBD port side
    FV stbd side
Tug and tow <200m port side
PDV overtaking another PDV – you see stern light, sidelight and masthead light is this possible
    • Actions you would expect OOW to take when encountering fog
    • You don’t have any radars, AB says fog signal fwd, actions

He said that was it over but he wanted more before making his decision: told me to go away and find out more about a few areas. I called Vinil (highly recommended if given the chance) and he sent all the answers I required instantly.
Went back online, gave him a few lines on what he asked for and he passed me. Very fair examiner and happy to re-word questions.
    Good luck.
