How do we know when to renew certs, expiry date and anniversary date.
SOLAS chapters, which one for boiler construction.
Prepping a boiler for survey attendance.
C/O fuel, shutdown, procedure. Follow manuf guidance wrt cooling, vacuum collapse.
Clean before surveyor arrives, risks with cleaning, sulphuric acid from wash down of soot, enclosed space. Prepping all components for inspection. Specific to timeline needed.
Where do we drain the water and why keep it.
What defects are we looking for, went in depth on boiler water treatment chemicals. Causes sludge, how do we remove.
Details on IWS and dry docks intervals. When are we allowed to do IWS.
IWS shows damage to bilge keel doubler plate. Prep for dry dock, adjacent tank needs emptying.
Hull plate to be replaced, where do we get info of plate metallergy from?
Yard provides a plate, it should be class stamped, approved welder for that specific metal procedure.
Weld testing and cooling procedure.
Went over HFO and products of combustion.
Lastly showed me a diagram which I said was a self excitation generator and went in depth of how AC/DC is converted, AVR control, PID controllers.
Tried to lead me towards the correct answers he was looking for, very patient, then the magic words.
