    Examiner: Alec Keep
    Candidate : Warren Corda
    Masters Unlimited
    Ship types : Cruise Ships
    Result: Pass
    Date : 10th may 2022
He told me I am here for Masters Unlimited, so I have to answer based on any kind of ship anywhere in the world but for most of the exams he stuck to my type of V/L. The examiner was very fair and made the exam seem like a conversation throughout -even rephrasing the questions when I wasn’t quite sure what he was asking . The exam lasted a solid 1 hour and 45 Minutes.

Was told I would be asked all questions as a Master onboard.

    On Cruise ships,

    • What will your company check before promoting you to captain. Any induction needed ? extra training ?
    • Under ISM code on your ship, what would you be requied to do to ensure compliance as a master
    • Company buys new ship and is starting a new company. How would you go about getting it certified and fit to sail
    • What are the security protocols you have onboard
    • Prepare for a PSSC inspection
    • Planning a voyage from Ft. Lauderdale to the norwegian Fjords. How would you do it.
    • Tell me about depressions

    • Lifeboat maximum capacity as per SOLAS
    • On arrival to Norway, you have to carry out a 5 yearly load test of Lifeboats. How do you plan and conduct it.
    • Certification—why MLC,ISM,SMC,ISSC are done together and by whom

following questions you are on a bulk carrier carrying grain.

    • Precautions while loading grain cargo
    • Hazards of grain carriage
    • Stability criteria for a grain carrying ship
    • What documents do you need for loading grain

    Back on cruise ships

    • Company wants you to sail along with 2 other company ships close to each other for a photoshoot and media opp. What would you do ?
    • Interaction between vessels. Overtaking, head on in shallow and restricted water
    • Undocking a ship from the pier where its docked in a tight basin. Your thrusters arent working but you have twin screws in operation. Onshore wind and tide from ahead of you .
    • Repatriation of crew- when does the crew get repatriated, what if the company doesn’t do it ? how will the crew know their rights in terms of this or what to do in this situation.
    • Are all people on cruise ships considered crew ? who isnt ?
    • Definition of a “passenger”. Who isnt considered a “passenger”
    • Explain rule 19
    • Showed a radar picture like the one below and said tell me about everything you see. What actions would you take in restricted visibility

    • When in the rules, does it say, you “MUST” take action
    • Explain action by stand on V/L
    • Explain 2b
