    Questions:
    • Asked a few question about special purpose ships. What are they? What requirements need to be met? I also spoke about what certificates the special personnel need.

    • Tell me about EAS?

    • How would I set up a safety committee? Went on saying the crew don’t want to be part of the safety committee what management styles could I use to talk to them?

    • How would you verify ISM is working onboard?

    • On a passage from Gibraltar to Canada carrying large reems of paper how would I plan the Voyage? I Started talking first about checking certificates are in date and no surveys due before we went. We ended up talking about this for a while and he moved onto other questions before I could talk more about the rest of voyage planning.

    • Showed a synoptic chart covering the UK and asked me to explain it?

    • Third officer on bridge what advice would I give him for taking weather observations? Where could you tell him to look for weather information?

    • Showed a picture of a steering gear layout and asked me to explain it?

    • How do I know the ECDIS is verified?

    • 2nd officer calls you saying his missing ECDIS update weeks 16,17 and 18 but does have the latest one 19. What advice would you give him?

    • He shared a picture of a Radar which a number if issues. Asked me to explain what was wrong with the radar and what action would you take if you come on the bridge and found the 2nd officer using the radar like that?

    • The vessel is about to leave port and chief engineer informs you that two fire heads in the engine room are not working. Says it’s all under control though as his already sorted extra watches and been in touch with a supplier in the next port to supply spares. Would you be happy to sail?

    • We then moved onto Rules of the Road.
