    I joined the meeting 20 mins before and Capt. Michele Moro joined about 5 mins before the allotted time. He introduced himself and asked me about myself including my career and then went on to check the room, explained all the regulations and policy and then straight jumped into the exam.
    1. HE SAID SO I WAS THE LUCKY ONE WHO WAS SELECTED BY THE OFFICE TO JOIN A YARD DELIVERY CAPE SIZE BULKER, HOW WOULD I GO ABOUT WITH IT?
    Told him everything that was there in the notes covering ISM, ISPS, SEA, Crew / Ship certification, MLC, Rest Hours (stating if I had a cadet below 18yrs of age and told him both the conditions for normal and under 18 yrs). Spoke about the procedure of obtaining an interim ISSC, Interim SMC and also mentioned about the ISPS drill to be carried out within first 5 days of the vessel sailing out. – Spoke for nearly 10 mins on this.
    2. ASKED ME IF THERE WAS A SYSTEM FOR CERTIFICATION?
    Told him about HSSC and then he asked me a few certificates anniversary dates.
    3. HE SAID U HAVE SUCCESSFULLY SAILED OUT AND ON PASSAGE U GET A COMPLAINT FROM THE AB THAT THE BOSUN IS BULLYING HIM?
    Talked about merchant navy code of conduct and procedures.
    4. U HAVE COME TO KNOW 3RD OFFICER HAS FALSIFIED PMS ENTRIES?
    Talked about merchant navy code of conduct and procedures.
    5. U ARE IN COASTAL WATERS AND U HAVE A MAIN ENGINE FAILURE?
    Spoke of the procedure as in the notes.
    6. THEN SAID U HAVE A FAST DRIFT RATE AND U ARE DRIFTING TOWARDS A SHALLOW PATCH?
    Told him I will call for tugs. He said the Port says Tugs not available. I said ill call in for salvage
    7. HE SAID OK FINE I WILL SEND IN 3 CHOPPERS BUT NO TUGS?
    Told him about Helicopter operations preparations but at the same time not get distracted only with the helicopter operations but also to keep an eye for drifting to danger.
    8. HE THEN ASKED WHICH CREW AND WHOM U WOULD EVACUATE FIRST?
    Told him keeping SAFE MANNING DOC in mind I would evacuate the rest keep minimum safe manning onboard.
    9. VESSEL HAS NOW RUN AGROUND?
    Told him all out the aground procedure and will report to MAIB.
    10. SHIP HANDLING?
    AA) Vessel Port side alongside, heading North. No wind / No Current. No tugs, No bow thruster, Standard MCA Ship. Unberth the vessel and head out south after unberthing.
    BB) Anchor the vessel at a anchorage posn on my stbd bow. Had another vessel South. Wind from the Stbd side.

    11. HE SHARED A SCREEN AND SAID YOU ARE IN A TSS AS BELOW AND SAID YOUR 3RD OFF CALLS YOU ON THE BRIDGE AND SAYS HE IS CONFUSED WITH WHAT ACTION IS TO BE TAKEN. HOW WOULD U GUIDE YOUR 3RD OFFICER IN THIS SITUATION AND WHAT WOULD BE UR ACTIONS?

    I explained the situation with respect to each target and final action was to slow down.

    12. HE THEN CHANGED THE SCREEN TO THE BELOW ONE AS SHOWN AND ASKED ME TO DESCRIBE WHAT KIND OF BUOY IT WAS AND THE ACTION. HE DIDN’T WANT THE LIGHT CHARACTERISTICS OR ANYTHING ELSE?

    THEN HE REMOVED THE SCREEN AND ASKED ME HOW DO I THINK I FARED. I SAID I THOUGHT I DID WELL AND HOPE I HAD SATISFIED HIM WITH ALL MY ANSWERS AND THAT THERE IS ALWAYS SCOPE FOR LEARNING. HE THEN SAID HE THOUGHT THE ORALS WAS SPOTLESS AND THAT I DID WELL . “IT’S A PASS “ .
    THNX TO ALL INVOLVED (GMA STAFF ) AND MY BATCH MATES FOR ALL IMPORTANT INPUTS DURING THE COURSE.

    THIS IS ALL HE ASKED IN THE ORDER STATED ABOVE AND NOTHING ELSE.
