KeymasterExam – Master’s Unlimited Examiner – Nayyer Hussain Naqvi
Date- Oct. 2023
Online Mode- 55 minutes Vessel Type – Bulk Carrier
Result: Pass (1st Attempt)
I logged in exactly 10 minutes before the Orals.
The examiner logged in at sharp oral time, briefed me about the rules and regulations. Checked passport, and my last UK COC.
For the purpose of exam you will be a Master on UK flag, container vessel at port Mumbai, destined for Singapore.
1. You are in master cabin, what all documents you will check?
(Mention also about Log books like – ORB/BWRB/GRB/OLB)
2. What certificate does MCA will issue in ACS system?
3. How will you prepare for intermediate MLC inspection?
4. Survey and audit schedule ISM certificate?
5. Safety equipment survey in one month? How to prepare?
6. What is your understanding as per ISM, responsibilities as a master?
7. Chief Officer informs that the vessel has reached draft marks, but there are still 40 containers left to load on Jetty, what you will do? Whom all you will inform? Will you load them or not?
8. WHAT DOCUMENTS WILL YOU ISSUE AND TO WHOM?
9. What authority you will use , in order not to load those containers?
10. What all point of concerns will be of Master, Chief officer, Chief Engineer and 2nd Officer w.r.t passage plan, let’s say you are sailing from Mumbai to Singapore in Loaded condition ?
11. Vessel leaves the port and then there is Main Engine Failure, action?
12. Now your vessel goes aground what will be your action, what all certificates got invalid, whom will you report.
13. Now the vessel sustain hull damage, your action?, Whom all you will report ?
14. Now vessel needs to go to dry dock, your action? (This is not a normal dry dock, so speak in reference to the damage caused due to grounding)
15. What information you will exchange with dock?
16. Precautions while entering dock. Facilities dry dock will provide to you ?
17. In dry-dock you got fire on the vessel, action? ( Use International Shore Connection)
18. What preparation/checks you will make, before flooding of dock ?
19. Now MAIB comes on board for inspection, what information you will provide them?
20. Soon after sailing from Dry-dock, 2nd officer calls you at afternoon and informs you about fire in galley? Action as master?
21. Ch.Cook severely injured and burnt, from where all you get medical help/advice?
22. Now chief cook need to be evacuated, Helicopter evacuation your steps as a master? Which guide to refer, documents you will send with ch cook.
23. Preparation for helicopter evacuation?
24. Can you sail further?
25. After ch cook departed what will you do ? ( safe manning, dispensation)
26. How will you get Dispensation certificate? How is Exemption certificate different than this?
27. While at sea there is a spill from the bunker vent. How will you contain the spill. Whom all you will inform? (BOPIC)
28. Now since you have met many emergencies on-board, being a prudent Master what will be your actions in relation to ISM?
Buoyage (All buoy region A, vessel entering port)
1. Preferred channel to Port
2. Isolated danger mark
3. Special Mark
4. Emergency wreck buoy
5. Safe water
6. North cardinal buoy, ship heading 090°.
7. West Cardinal buoy, ship heading 000°.
8. IALA A Port Hand
9. IALA A STBD Hand
Situation ( All situation risk of collision exist)
1. Narrow channel you had to overtake from port side what sound signal you will give and another vessel signal ( narrow channel graphic mostly looking Similar as TSS)
2. I’m CBD, another NUC crossing from port side.
3. Fishing crossing from port to stbd ROC exist action
5. One vessel RAM on port side crossing port to starboard, another FV with gear extending 150 mtr or more, right a head ?
LIGHTS
• NUC – Underway and Stopped, making no way through water.
• V/L aground possibly more than 50m in length (Stop and Reverse Course)
• FV other than trawling /gear extending more than 150mtrs.
• One white light (all possibilities)
• FV WITH 2 POSSIBILITIES-FV UNDERWAY MAKING WAY SEEN FROM ASTERN OR FV UNDERWAY AND STOPPED OR AT ANCHOR WITH EXTENDED GEAR. (Extending outlaying gear more than 150m)
