KeymasterJoined the Teams meeting 15 minutes before and waited, shortly after my examiner popped up. Be ready to go 15 minutes before. Mr Jackson explained the rules of the exam displaying powerpoint slides then asked me if all was understood and if I had any questions then we proceeded. Started with my past experience and last vessel.

What are your roles and responsibilities as C/M?
On route to a port what are your preparations for loading cargo?
What Standing orders would you give to your deck crew carrying out a cargo watch?
How would you know how to secure cargo?

So what are the two methods of securing cargo? (CSS code, Rule of Thumb and Advanced Calc Method)
What factors does the advanced formula take into account?
You’re Loading a DG container. What are you going to check? (IMDG DOC, schedule 1 and 2, IMDG code) (MGN36 & MGN340)
How often are lifeboat lowered to the waterline?
How would you carry out a lifeboat launch drill? (MGN 71 MGN560 MSC.1/Circ 1206)
What would you be checking when the lifeboat is raised back to its stowed position? (Speed its being recovered, visual inspection of davits, falls, hooks, wires sheaves, possible ingress of water, was looking for limit switches) (MGN464)

Where would water flow out on when using the flow through method and where is this situated?
You’re on the bridge as Master, there’s a fire in the Galley and the cook is missing actions?
Now as C/M you’re on scene commander actions?
What checks would you carry out on the firemans outfit and BA? What equipment is carried? (specifically looking for the requirement to carry two way portable radio’s SOLAS 11-2/10.10.4 July 2018)
What fixed fire fighting system would you expect in the galley how/where to trigger?
Cook was stuck in the Galley and has been recover by the fire party badly burnt actions? (Medical care, dress wound, treat pain, Captains Medical Guide, Doctors advice via MRCC contact radio telemedical)
There is a helicopter now on the way for a MEDEVAC, where would you find information on helicopter operations? (IAMSAR Vol 3, Chamber of Shipping Guide to Helicopter/Ship operations (was carried onboard my last ship), SMS, MGN161)
How wold you prepare the casualty and brief your crew?
Your ship is in dry dock what would you inspect on the hull when having a walk around? (Bottom plugs, speed log, UKC transducer, Propellers, bow thruster/s, gratings, rudder, damage to hull, anchors laid and inspected, inlets and outlets, hull openings)
What else are you looking for? (mentioned anodes then went into why ICCP’s are used as an alternative to anodes lastly mentioning loadline marks)

– When determining safe speed what factors would you take into account when using operational radar?
– Vsl towing, RAM, less 50m in length, length of tow exceeds 200m in length, seen starboard side on, port bow. Actions? Day shapes and fog signal?
– Put up day shapes towing vsl, length of tow over 200m. Identify and actions? Fog signal?
– Vsl aground possibly over 50m in length, seen from her port side. Day shapes? Fog Signal?
– Region A preferred channel to starboard. Identify, light and where would you pass? (same every time)

How would you set up your radar? (RM, Relative trails, True Vectors, Sea Stabilised, Course Up). Differences between head up and north up/course up?
One situation, two targets with relative vectors. Displayed as ARPA screen Own VSL 10Kts heading north. Target one, strbd bow 5kts ROC exists. Target 2, Port Quarter 20kts ROC exists. Common alteration to starboard. -
