    I joined meeting about 10 mins prior to assigned time and he joined after a minute .
    He did the formal checks and identity verification . soft spoken , will ask you to feel free if you want to remove your coat and tie .
    Then we started exact on time .
    Asked from which MIN you get the info regarding the syllabus for chief mates oral
    what type of ships I have done . I told him I did oil tanker majorly and the last vessel was Ethylene tanker.
    1. Tell me about your last vessel ?
    4. You are joining new vessel in new company as COF tell me what will you observe as per ISM?
    5. what are the main objective of ISM?
    6. what are the functional requirements as per SMS ?
    7. what are the documents onboard as per ISM?
    8. DOC and SMC validity period and when will the inspection done and by whom ?
    9. The expiry duration and renewal process ?
    11. Showed a blank flammability diagram and asked what is it , explain it ?
    12. you said inerting , purging and gas freeing , what do you mean by that ?
    15. what equipment in CCR provide details about Oxygen ?
    17. where will you get IG from , tell me start to end ? from boiler uptake till the tank .
    18. Showed a forward draft mark photo , read the draft mark ?
    19. what is the height of draft mark ?
    20. what is FWA and DWA ?
    21. Showed a numerical question , given FWA – 62.5mm, TPC- 15, DW density -1.005
    Port side draft mark at SLL , stbd mark 5cm below SLL , how much you will load to bring it to SLL ?
    22. thickness of loadline mark ?
    23. Showed a pic of GZ curve showing stable and Loll in the same graph , what is it ?
    24. what is stable equilibrium ?
    25. what is angle of loll ?
    26. what do you think will cause loll ?
    27. you said virtual loss of G ? reason for it ? want to hear FSE
    28. what is FSE ? when will it effect the most ? in single tank or sub-division tank.
    29. The vessel in loll stbd side , 3 bottom tank port , centre , stbd . how will you correct the loll condition ?
    30. Showed a pic of ECDIS , vessel in narrow channel , ecdis route track, vessel past track showing vessel moved to land and came back , COG towards shallow water . what do you understand by it ?
    31. GPS failure , how will you handle situation as COF ?
    32. what about COG , what will you do about it ? what about steering , what all will gps failure effect?
    Asked regarding the man overboard drill and what preparation you will do as a ch off for the drill.
    33. IALA buoyage – you are east bound , you see this buoy (west cardinal without top mark ) , action?
    34. how will you report this missing top mark ? IHO 102 A
    35. showed buoyage channel heading west inbound region A , pass through buoy and tell me characteristic of buoy – lateral port hand buoy, lateral preferred channel to stbd buoy, iso- danger buoy, special mark buoy ( can ), lateral preferred channel to stbd.
    36. smarty card – 2 red light – characteristic ?
    37. you see it on 4 point stbd , action ?
    38. FV – hampered with purse seine gear ( 2 yellow flashes) , you see this on 2 point stbd , action ?
    39. what will you explain cadet about FV ? I explained all type of FV condition including trawler condition ie shooting nets, hauling nets, fast at obstruction and 150 mtr extending gears . precaution and which side to alter vessel.
    40. where you find this type of FV and precaution for navigation ?
    41. Smarty card – PDV seen from slight port side , you see this vessel 4 point abaft your stbd beam , what situation and action ?
    42. now its RV , do you have any obligation in this condition?
    43. smarty card : dreger conducting underwater operation seens from head on , characteristic and action ?
    44. radar plot : your course 220, spd 4kts 1 tgt :2 point stbd bow, spd 6kts , cpa 6 nm
    2nd tgt : stbd quarter 3 nm, cpa : 0 3rd tgt : port quarter 5 nm cpa : 0.15nm , what will be your action?
    45. you said you will reduce and take all way off , explain your action to 3OF ? explained rule 19
    46. He said why not reduce 1 or 2 kts , why to take all way off ? taking action evident to other vessel .

    He will ask question from the answer you give him . if you answer is heading right direction, he will lead you to what he wants to hear. He was not happy with my answer for man overboard drill and gps failure said he wanted management level answer.

    He said I didn’t mention training ,previous drill records wherein I remember I had mentioned I will ask duties check Ppe and bla bla which comes under training

    And he asked me one numerical which I couldn’t solve

    For these reasons he failed me
