Result : Passed
Logged in 20 minutes earlier, the Surveyor logged in 10 minutes later, we started off
with the usual intro, ID checks and house keeping.
Questions:
1. Tell me about your last ship?
2. All questions will be based on a General Cargo ship
3. Your are Joining as a newly promoted Chief Mate with a new company and a
new ship; explain how you will join from the quayside and Handover? (He
wanted every detail that covers every aspect of the Chief officer duties,
Certifications, including pre- joining meetings and checklist as well)
4. Your mentioned Safety equipment earlier, what would be your duties as the
Ships Safety Officer?
5. In the Health and Safety Regulation when is it required for the Master to
appointment a SSO? (I just told him when the Vessel is having the standard
crew complement or as per Minimum Safe Manning )
6. What would be your duties as the Ships Security Officer? ISPS Code
requirements?
7. Whats are the Security levels and the conditions for Level 3?
8. Whats the interval of ISPS Security Drill? Can the frequency be increased? and
on which conditions?
9. Shared the Screen; Buoys; full Identification and action on given Headings;
-East Cardinal Buoy
-Port Hand lateral mark region B.
– West Cardinal Buoy
-isloated danger mark
10.You are Chief Mate off watch, Sleeping in your cabin and you hear the Emergency
alarm followed by a PA announcment that your Vessel has ran aground, Action?
11. You are the Chief Mate on board a General cargo ship, how will you go about
loading DG cargoes on your next port?
(He wants to hear the documents required first, Shippers DG declaration, loading
list/Manifest, MHDS/MSDS, Vsl’s Valid DoC for DG, copy of IMDG Code onboard,
Segregation and your consultation of the EmS Guide and MFAG before making the
stowage and loading plan)
12. Showed me GZ curve, What is it? what does it tell about the ship? What are the
information you can get from it? demostrate how you can derive the GM from the
curve?
13. (Master 3000Gt Ship Handling), He shared the screen, gave the following details;
a General Cargo ship proceeding inbound in a river channel with a Single screw fixed
pitched right handed propeller and rudder, no bow thruster and a stern tidal current of
2.5kts, No Wind, you are the Master, Explain how you can make a reciprocal turn to
proceed back to the pilot station? (the use the starboard Anchor and the use of
Transverse trust is his major interest)
14. COLREGs, Shared the screen for Lights; I’m on a PDV, Good visibility, unlimited
Sea Room, give full xteristics and Identification after that action?
-NUC; Underway but stopped in Water ( He wants to hear; Length Unknown, Aspect
Unknown)
-Mine clearance Vessel less than 50m;
( Kindly clearify if the Mine Clearance Vessel is expected in the area based on any
Navigational warnings or any local notice in place for her operation before
proceeding to take any action).
If She’s been expected then the normal Colreg rule applies, Keep clear 1000m port or
Stbd.
If she is not expected, stop your Vessel, call the Master, If you are not the Master,
assess the situation, if possible Call the Mine Clearance Vessel for any advise
coordinates for safe water, A/C to safe water as your Vessel might already been on a
bomb infested waters.
15 . Shared a Rader screen; (Radar Plotting ‘Restricted Visibility), Relative Motion
True Vector;
Target A: 2 points of Vsl’s forward Bow; CPA= 0 , TCPA=15 minutes
Target B: 3 points Abaft the Port Quarters, ; CPA= 0, TCPA= 18 Minutes
Which actions will you take for each target and as per which Rule?
