    Last minute examiner change, logged in from my original link but when no one came online at the exam time I checked my email and found a new link had just been sent. Asked me my experience throughout my career, he explained he would be asking me questions from MIN653 and then started.
    1. Showed me a Synoptic chart – tell me a forecast for the UK on this day
    2. What was your last passage? What information would the Chief Mate give the 2nd officer prior to starting the passage plan.
    3. Considerations for stability throughout the passage
    4. Sextant – what are the 9 errors on a sextant and what are the correctable errors
    5. Showed me a picture of a Stevenson screen – what is used for?
    6. Said I was now master. Showed me a precision aneroid barometer and said I’ve seen it fall 5mb over the past 3 hours, no storm forecast received. Answered, transmit a SOLAS danger message and actions as per in the vicinity of TRS.
    7. What are the other danger messages? Answered as per Reg 31, also mentioned reporting containers which he was happy with.
    8. RV actions prior to the captain coming onto the bridge
    9. RV vessel crossing from stbd, ROC exists – wanted me to quote part d of the rule and state my actions
    10. Running moor, draw it, explain it
    11. Load line marks, draw it (I asked if he wanted dimensions / timber LL, he said no)
    12. Considerations on a timber vessel – wanted to hear absorption of water in the cargo, what it will cause, explanation of loll – vessel stable or unstable?

    17. What is the IMDG code and how would I use it?

    19. ECDIS – what makes an ECDIS and ECDIS

    21. ECDIS – what happens to your ECDIS if your GPS fails – wanted to hear DR
    22. What can you do to make your DR more accurate; I said account for set and drift
    23. You’re now the master, and the 2nd officer reports Dev of 6 deg, is this acceptable? No. What are your actions? Went through all the checks on the Mag
    compass, correctors etc. He said everything is fine, now what. I said arrange to get it swung and he was happy with this. 24. Full explanation for actions as Chief Off – fire in the engine room. Asked about fixed firefighting on my vessel.
    25. Fire in the engine room, considerations for flooding with use of water or CO2? Main Engine failure / NUC
    26. Full explanation for actions as Chief Off – in a grounding. I mentioned initial actions and use of Damage control plan, later mentioned sounding around the vessel and sounding of the tanks, that was what he wanted to hear.
    27. Tug cannot arrive for 12 hours, actions. Ballast the vessel down.
    28. Frequency of drills – fire, enclosed space
    29. Frequency of accommodation inspections
    30. Dry docking, why a stern trim? What is the critical period? Critical instant?
    31. How would you know what plugs to remove? Tank plug plan.
    32. What would you do with the plugs once removed, I said label them as per the plan and keep them in my cabin, he was happy with this.
