C/E Unlimited Motor report 15/08/2023
Very standard oral with no unexpected questions, 45 minutes from start to finish.
• Explained how to conduct a survey on a 2 stroke cross head bearing, explain the checks, expected wear and how it is lubricated and the challenges faced by this. Covered enclosed space entry.
• Explain what to do in the event of a TC failure on a 2 stroke with 2 turbo chargers, explain the impact and what you will need to do to get to the next port, and what will do in terms of repair and reporting,
• In dry dock, talk me through from fore to aft what you will check, focused on anchor, chain, anodes, corrosion protection, checks on rudder, propeller, what will surveyor want to see.
• Talk me through a tail shaft survey and what you will expect to see,
• Failure of boiler tube, different types of repair method, what is a composite boiler, how will you inform class, rules for repair etc. How will you prevent this from happening again.
• Explain what surveys you will be in involved with as a chief engineer
• Name statutory certificates,
• Tell me about ISM and how it affects you as C/E
• Name audits and how you will prepare
• MLC how it affects you as C/E hours of work and rest, what to do if have person under 18, how will you train a cadet.
Not a large amount of content, in the exam, after I told him hours of work for MLC per day/week and for cadets he said I passed.
