    Initially I had a few issues getting Teams to work. It kept opening in my browser instead of the app (Said that it could not be opened through the app although I had the app downloaded on my laptop) Joined 15 mins before as required and was wondering if I did the wrong thing so was busy checking the link again but examiner joined promptly at 0900 hrs.
    Went through the formalities as per MCA Code of conduct.
    Asked my about my experience on my last ship. He said as I was going for Unlimited, so I have to answer based on any kind of ship anywhere in the world. As it is Masters Oral, it will be for about 2 hours. But eventually we finished off in 1 hr 30 mins.
    We then got started with the questions.
    1. You just got promoted to Master, who would you expect to meet for briefing from the office? (Talked about DPA, SSO, Crew Manager/ HR, Ship superintendent) – Then asked what information I would be expected to get and or communicate with the respective roles.
    2. Responsibilities of DPA? (SPAMS-Described that). Where can you get the roles of DPA?
    On route from USA to Europe, What would you expect along that passage? More looking for weather and which route would you use when planning?
    3. Displayed Load Line Diagram and asked to explain everything.
    4. Displayed Surface Analysis chart and told me I am in UK, just south of Greenland. Describe the what you see on the synoptic chart.
    5. Give me full details of a master/ pilot exchange
    6. When navigating in a river which position would you expect to have your anchors?
    7. What is the Difference between CPP and FPP. What propulsion system did you have on your last ship?
    8. In a river you loose main engines. Action?
    9. You have fire in the purifier room. Actions? During head count, duty second engineer missing. Actions. What fixed fire fighting systems would you have? What are the different types of foam systems (High and Low expansion)
    10. What insurance would you expect to have under MLC- 15 and 16 of dmlc 2
    11. Passage planning on a coastal passage. How will I consider Manning Level for ship.
    12. Restricted visibility, 2nd mate called me, my action.
    13. What certifications are issued by MCA?
    14. Preparation for Safety Construction Survey and where would you get information to prepare for it.
    15. What health and safety measures to follow on board?
    16. What certification are you required to have when carrying grain and what are the dangers of it?
    17. He gave the actual pics of Buoys to identify and action: Emergency wreck buoy, South Cardinal. Course 090. How to pass?
    18. In a river in Rotterdam, showed a preferred channel to starboard buoy region B. Asked if I would be expect to see this here? Then asked what countries are associated with IALA B.
    19. Sailing vessel on port bow crossing, describe the situation and later asked for action.
    I am on a container vessel and I have a PDV on my port. Action?
    My heading is 000 and I have a target bearing 103. Action?
    20. How can you determine whether there is risk of collision or not in your ship. (Initially I replied Using compass bearing and EBL, He asked for More, Then I said ARPA. Also spoke of Rule 7 for determining Risk of Collision)
    21.In TSS, I am following lane and PDV Crossing from my Stbd side, Action.
    22. Preparation for departure, explain to junior officer how to use ECDIS and some of the disadvantages of it? What are the systems integrated in the ECDIS?
    23. Ship in narrow channel with shallow depths what are the signs of SQUAT that you would be able to identify
    24. Explain what you see on the radar screen below. CPA now shows 0.2 Nm Action in daylight and then action in restricted vis.
    25. lights with pdv on port side, junior officer calls as target 2 miles away. Action?
    26. Showed a vessel ram towing seen from stbd side length of the towing vessel less than 50m and length of tow exceeds 200m . Action?
    I think that’s all about the questions. Other questions asked were off from answers that I would have given to him. Be mindful that they were in no particular order as I just typed as I remember. All in all the exam was fair. Thanks to GMA Team and Whitehorse Team and Close associates that I studied with.
