    Exam time : 1hr 35mins
    Result : Failed

    1) How will you take over as a Master? What sort of documentation would you be looking at?
    2) Once you have taken over, how do you know your vessel is ISM compliant?
    3) 2/Off signing-on what certificates of his would you be looking at?
    4) Going from New York to Gibraltar, Brand new 2/off onboard how will you guide him to carry out a passage plan, what advice would you give him for planning this particular passage?
    5) What equipments do you have onboard to monitor weather?
    6) Showed a synoptic chart of north atlantic, what weather is expected on the west coast of UK? What will be direction of wind ?
    7) Continue on the same passage, vessel is expecting heavy weather?
    8) Chief officer comes up to you and says he has to overhaul a valve in void space, how will you go about it?
    9) 3 persons had gone down for overhauling the valve, C/Off gets an alarmon his ersonal gas meter in void space, what do you expect them to do?
    10) Out of 3 persons only 2 could make it out of the void space, what actions would you take?
    11) Once the person is rescued what sort of medical assistance would you provide him with?(looking for medical guide, RMA, company’s RMA)
    12) RMA advises to air-lift him, helicopter on its way, what preparations would you carry out, consider Chief/officer and some crew are busy handling the casualty, also chief-officer is exhausted?
    13) When the helicopter arrives, what would you do before finally handing-over the casualty?
    14) Chief-Officer comes to the bridge & says he needs to carry out Ballast Water Exchange? What do you understand by that? How would you carry out BWE what regulations are applicable?
    15)

    You are Vessel doing 12 kts with fairly enough space inbound to a berth, what would be your course of action?
    16)After no.15),ignore the vessel ahead of you, port calls you and advises you to turn around & go out for anchoring as your berth isn’t vacant yet?
    17) How will you prepare for anchoring?
    18) How will you determine, how many shackles to lower? (expects 4 times depth of water + 1 shackle for good luck)
    19) In the middle of the night 2/off wakes you up & tells you he is not sure whether vessel is dragging anchor? How will you decide whether vessel is dragging anchor?
    20) Once confirmed vessel dragging anchor, what actions will you take?
    21) During sailing, 2/off wakes you up & informs you vessel is experiencing fog? (expects to have checked NAV Lts. are ON, although he said that they are usually on & may not be seen by other vessel, as a Master you must check whether they are ON)
    22) In the night you are sleeping, you hear 5 or more short & rapid blasts, you realize they are not from your ship. When you rush up to the bridge you see 3/off sleeping on the chair & lookout is missing from the bridge. Vessel crossing from starboard to port? (ROR action, followed by disciplinary actions as per Merchant Navy code of conduct)
    23)Fire in Galley!

    24) R.V. which vessel is doing what and what will be your final action?
    25) Lots of ROR situations but nothing out of normal or complicated?
    26) Buoyage

    Explain each buoy & take action as you proceed?(Asked him the direction of buoyage, then he said outbound)
    27) Smarty boards – Almost all possible ships, nothing out of usual though
    28) Smarty board to identify was sailing vessel, after identifying he said this vessel is on your starboard quarter more than 22.5*abaft, doing 12kts & you are doing 6 kts, what action will you take?
    29)Smarty board – Aground vessel, length probably more than 50mtrs.Identify?
    30)You are on this vessel and it has been more than 10 mins since you have been aground, what would you expect to be the scenario onboard?
