You are a new master sent to relieve the outgoing master who has only one (1)hour for his handover due to his flight schedule, onboard is an experience chief officer, experienced second officer but first time with the company and a fresh third officer. The ship is currently in the UK, passing through Gibraltar to load LNG and proceeding to USA
Q1. What do you expect the outgoing master to handover to you?
Ans: I expect a safe ship, safe crew, valid certificates and documents and any outstanding inspections, also update the OLB and List of crew and inform management office.
Q2. How would expect the third officer, second officer and chief officer to perform their duties?
Ans: ISM, Loadline, MARPOL, special areas, MLC, STCW, ISPS
Q2. 1 What do I expect from the chief officer in relation to carrying out his duties properly?
Q2. 2 What do I expect from the fresh officer and how will he carry out his job effectively?
Q2. 3 the second officer is also the safety officer, explain what you expect from him as the safety officer and how will he carry out his duties effectively?
Q3. Tell me in general about the passage plan and what I expect from the second officer?
Q4. Showed a synoptic chart covering the UK and asked me to explain it?
Q4. 1 As a master what am I expecting to encounter during the passage?
Q5. The difference between a real magnetic compass and a transmitting magnetic compass?
Q6. Showed a stephenson screen and asked the use?
Q7. Showed and aneroid barometer and asked the used and what I expect to see if there was a TRS?
Q8. The vessel is about to leave port and chief engineer informs that two fire heads in the engine room are bad, what certificates will it affect?
