In most cases I had the knowledge and experience to go a bit more in depth with things but he was happy with what I gave him and didn’t dig too deep. Once I said the key words, he was looking for we moved on to the next.
1. A bit about myself and boats I had worked on (Tankers, cruises and large private yachts +100m)

3. ISM, tell me about it and how we use it as engineers
4. What is a non compliance and give me an example?

15. What boilers I have onboard (no boiler onboard we use a calorifier, but I worked with auxiliary steam boilers on tankers)
16. What maintenance is carried out on calorifier (referred to MGN 525 – maintenance of water systems)
17. What alarms and cut out do you have on steam boilers?
18. How often would you blow down a boiler?
19. What steering gear do you have onboard? (Hydraulic Ram)
20. What are the requirements for steering gear and what do you test

22. You mentioned when you test it on load and simulate a blackout you expect it to come on in good time, what the requirement?
23. How long should the EDG be able to provide power for? (18hrs cargo & 36hrs passenger)
24. Where do you find star/delta and why? (Large motors, prevent voltage dip over busbar)
25. Draw star/delta and explain how it works
26. How would you know if a motor was stuck in star?
27. How would you know if a motor was single phasing ?
28. Could you restart a motor if it had been single phasing ?
