    I joined 10 mins earlier, but surveyor didn’t show up mailed MCA for new link & he was waiting there. General introduction
    Put me on General Cargo Vessel joining from NE of U.K tidal port.
    1) Full taking over procedure joining as Chief Mate.
    2) When you joined you came to know about NC which is 2 months & 29 days old what does NC becomes now (Major NC)
    3) You are on aft deck you see AB attending ropes alone what will you do.
    4) After stopping him what will you do (He wanted to hear you will send a circular to company and company will send circular to other ship’s and why??)
    5) Who is responsible for Safety meeting and who all should attend safety meeting as per COSWP
    6) Your vessel have 2-month-old NC from previous PSC and it is still not closed and pilot has reported that to PSC (NC is on Bridge) you see PSC coming what will you do
    7) PSC see the previous NC while checking it is not in good order what PSC will do. (More Detailed inspection)
    8) You are on deck what checks will you carry out for hold as per load line
    9) Then he said you are in ship’s office and you noticed your pencil rolled over from the table you noticed there is a huge list as soon as you noticed general alarm was raised and your third officer said he tried reaching you but couldn’t connect on radio your radio was off Third officer is panicked what will you do and what task will you give you third officer.
    10) Your vessel is at LOLL what will you do

    17) Showed me a picture of an extinguisher and said New third officer saw there is no pressure in it what will you do (Wanted hear Risk assessment)
    18) showed me synoptic chart & find wind direction & speed.
    19) Showed me synoptic chart and asked weather in NE of U.K
    20) He said weather is very rough in next 24 hours and your departure is also after 24 hours what will you do(Delay departure)
    21) Then he showed me Enc symbols

    22) He said before departure what will you check in passage as a senior officer
    23) What is safety depth, safety contour and shallow contour
    24) What will you do when you see plenty of this symbol on ECDIS while checking passage plan

    25) Showed me IMO FFA symbols. International shore connection.
    26) He showed me Racon T and asked me how it will appear on radar
    27) Now he said you are the captain and you are sailing from u.k to u.s and bosun report’s crack in the Hull what will you
    28) Ok you check on lodicator and its says that if you take in the ballast in DB tank your stress will be very less and it will reduce the progress of that crack also. What will you do. You are fully loaded up to the marks. Will you take it or not.
    29) You are now heading towards port of refuge under what regulation are you heading( He wants to hear Master’s over riding authority)
    30) What will you do to OLB once you reach port of refuge ( SEAL OLB in a envelope as evidence)
    31) Showed me a picture of Magnetic compass asked me where is the magnet
    32) And asked what are correctors for and their material
    33) Un berthing vessel, offshore wind of 10kts vessel was port side A/S.

    Then he started with RV Showed radar plotting screen and own ship true vector was also their on it. Heading 000
    Started with 1 blip on my stbd bow.
    Explain him required systematic plot then he complete the plot. Then another blip on stbd quarter with zero CPA told me calculate approx. CPA and TCPA of both and action
    34) Ask me what do you mean by broad alteration (want to hear readily apparent)
    35) Then he showed me Fishing vessel gear extended 150 meters
    36) Tug and tow more then 200 meters asked what is the misconception ( that it is not RAM)
    37) How will you take bearing of tug
    38) Then showed me

    That’s it finish with the orals and then 4 magic words PASS.
