    Duration: 1 hour 40 minutes
    Result: Pass
    Started off by introducing himself and working through the MCA Code of conduct. Wanted a quick view of the room, and a look at my passport. Asked me about my previous experience and said answer the following question as Master onboard your last vessel.
    1. MARPOL, tell me about what certificates you would have onboard for a 499GT vessel?
    2. MLC, Do you require it, and how does the company obtain MLC certificate?
    3. ISM, What certificate comes with ISM?
    4. What other Certificates would you expect onboard?
    5. What equipment do you have onboard to find out the weather?
    6. Showed me a synoptic chart, what could I expect at a Low depression?
    7. Ask me to identify cold front, warm front and occluded front
    8. Barometer, what is it? What does it do?
    9. Hygrometer, what is it, What’s its purpose?
    10. Passage from Forth to somewhere in England, how would you prepare your vessel?
    11. What would you specifically look for on the route?
    12. What would you be telling your Mate/OOW about stability for the passage?
    13. On the passage, crew member gets seriously ill, actions?
    14. English channel, steering gear failure, actions?
    15. Ended up grounding, Actions?
    16. Do you ask for towage or salvors? What’s the difference?
    17. Back to the serious ill crew member, he gets Airlifted, what documents would you give?
    18. Who else would you contact? Where would you log it?
    19. What about next of kin?
    20. Back in port bunkering, manifold leaks, actions?
    Buoyage, wanted full description of the buoy and what side I would pass it on.
    – West cardinal mark, heading 180’
    – East cardinal mark, heading 180’
    – East cardinal mark, heading 090’ – Stop immediately, turn around, check chart etc
    – West cardinal buoy on port side, East cardinal mark on Stbd, how would I proceed? Straight through
    – Port hand lateral mark Region A
    – Preferred channel to stbd region A
    – Emergency wreck buoy
    – Safe water mark
    – Special mark buoy
    – Isolated danger mark

    Lights
    – SV
    – FV with either stern light or Gear extended 150m (stopped or at anchor)
    – Vsl aground <50m
    – NUC Stopped
    – RAM Tug and Tow, Vessel >50m, Tow <200m
    ROR (open water)
    – RAM on Stbd, I was on CBD
    – FV Stbd side with gear 150m
    – NUC Stbd side
    – PDV Port side
    – Narrow channel, wanting to overtake, actions?
    Radar Plot – Risk of collision with all vessels

    Last question, Single handed screw, wind 10knots on Port side, how would I berth Port side to?

    Said he was very happy with all my answers, gave me some advice going forward as Master and wished me well. Very good examiner, relaxed and understanding.
