    13:30-14:30
    tw – glasgow
    Result: Pass

Started off with the usual about the fire alarm and then asking about last ship.
He aske class of last ship then said I would be on a normal bulk carrier for the remainder of the exam.

He started with light and shapes:
    1. Single white light
    2. Trawler shooting nets under way
    3. Towing (RAM) more than 200m

Next was buoys. Firs was port hand lateral region B. North Cardinal. He wanted lights and actions. Asked where the danger was with the cardinal.

He moved on to restricted visibility asked me what rules apply. He made a plot with 4 vessels. Said the cadet started the plot and asked me to complete it when I came to the bridge as master. The magnets where green and white. There were 4 vessels. 1 directly ahead same course same speed. One on the port beam same course and higher speed and two vessels on the starboard quarter approaching with higher speed.

He moved on to some situations. Set up a TSS asked what rule I would associate with it. He had a TSS set up with lots of models following both lanes. He put me in the separation zone crossing. FV was following the lane on starboard side – asked actions. He put me flowing the opposite lane and a SV crossing from starboard side – asked actions. He asked about a model in the separation zone doing work. Is it allowed? What lights/shapes would he be displaying?

He then filled the table with lots of models. Ahead, astern and lots on starboard side. Said the 2nd mate called me up and I was presented with this. What would I do?

He then said the cadet called me later and said he was having a hard time understanding rules 8fi,ii,iii. How would I explain it to the cadet?

Next, he moved on and said I took over a bulker in Glasgow. Going through the certificate file and found an expired cert – actions? Asked what type of certificates I would have? What are SOLAS certificates?

He then get us sailing said 200nm from land pitch dark 2nd mate calls you to the bridge and said he heard MAYDAY on the radio. Actions?

MRCC reports vessel 50nm to south actions and onboard preparations? Aircraft and your vessel are on scene. What publication would I consult? Asked me to draw the search pattern that would be used?

Next was actions approaching a fog bank?

    Masters responsibilities under ISM?
2 new crew joining. 16 yrs. female cadet and foreign chief officer. What certificates under STCW? ENG1 5-year validity allowed? SEA marked for 1yr1day allowed? Additional preparations for young person?

What do I understand about LOF?
How to PSC target ships under Paris MOU?
How would I prepare for PSC inspections?
    What’s a dispensation?
Records to be kept in oil record book?
How do I know what the entries in the oil record book mean?
How long is a bunker delivery note kept onboard for?
Ship handling – do a running moor in a narrow channel – tide from stern and force 3 wind on port side.

That’s more or less what I remember, may have been more questions. Examiner was fair and professional. Thanks to GMA.
