1 hour 30 minutes.
1. Asked about current vessels, engine type, rank, experience. LNG
2. Asked about LNG cargo tanks, materials and construction.
3. Asked about MEGI engines and how the boil off gas gets from cargo tank to engine.
4. Anything special about the pipe work from compressor room to engine room/engine? Looking for double walled with vent fan and gas leak detection.
5. Safety features for leakage of cargo at manifold.
6. What kind of fuel we use besides LNG. Fuel requirements and whose standards must be met.
Sulphur limits and where they apply.
7. What to consider when calculating fuel for a long voyage?
8. Where can you find the SFOC?
9. Talk through preparing for bunkering, and performing bunkering procedure.
10. What paperwork need doing after bunkering?
11. Not happy with the fuel, what do you do?
12. What is Chief Engineers job/role onboard?
13. Joined a vessel as C/E for 1st time, what would you want to see? List certificates.
14. How long are the certificates valid?
15. If SEC annual survey was done 1st January, when would you contact Class to arrange the next Annual survey? The way it was asked I think he wanted to know how far in advance you need to book the survey rather than the timeframe the certificate is valid.
Tried to discuss both.
16. How much flexibility in the time frame for 5 year certificates renewal/survey.
17. As C/E, what things should you consider before sailing? Was looking for Fuel, FW, LO, critical spares, etc.
18. What items are on critical spares list, and where can this list be found.
19. Screenshare Star/Delta starter drawing. Identify safety components.
Describe how star/delta works.
What is OCR and what would cause it to activate?
What ER pumps would have this kind of starter?20. What other kinds of soft starters are there?
21. Scenario- A generator ACB fail to open. What will you do?
22. Expanding on above scenario- 4 generators, ACB stuck on one, another is dismantled engine being overhauled… you are coming into port… what will you do?
23. With 2 out of 4 generators disabled would you leave port after cargo, on your next voyage?
24. Scenario – ship has grounded, what would your actions be as C/E?
25. Following the grounding, the Master tells you the vessel is continuously turning to stbd. What will you check regarding steering gear and rudder? How would you fix this?
26. What are the solas steering gear tests? Times? What is hard over to hard over? How many degrees.
27. What equipment is covered by the SEC? Started listing all LSA and FFE.
He stopped me and asked me what equipment specifically in the ER… this threw me off track a bit, and I suspect he was looking for quick closing valves and emergency stops that I missed out.
28. Sewage plant – how does it work?
How would you prove to PSC it was functioning correctly? -
