    I have tried to get everything down, it is in roughly the order in which
    it was presented. The exam jumped around topics a little and didn’t
    follow the order of topics in MGN69 religiously.
    Joined call 10mins early as requested, examiner joined very shortly
    afterwards. He thanked me for being there early.
    He started by introducing himself and how the exam was to be
    conducted via teams. We did a screen share test with a slide showing
    the regulations for the exam and I was told about what would be
    considered as ‘cheating’ etc. This concluded me showing him around
    the room with the camera on the PC. We the. Talked about my
    experience.
    The exam was very conversational and was more of a discussion
    rather than an inquisition. He was very fair and would push you in the
    right direction if he wanted more. He said that he would be writing
    things down and not to be put off by it. He also said that if he said
    “ok” or “right” that was not an indication that I had given the correct
    answer and to continue until he stopped me. I was allowed to continue
    and as soon as he thought I knew something he would stop me and
    move on.

    2. How would you go about implementing the SMS onboard?
    3. How would you go about motivating the crew?
    4. What would you include in Standing Orders?
    5. How would you go about deciding on the composition of the
    Bridge Watch on a Passage between Liverpool and Tyne via the
    Channel?
    6. MLC – certification and general requirements onboard?
    7. SEAs
    8. What is a CBA, how does it relate to the SEA?
    9. Signing on foreign officers? What certs would you expect to see?
    10. Signing on Pilipino crew, AB – certs?
    11. Stewards, passenger muster duties, cert requirements?
    12. What special cert requirement do you have for officers and key
    personnel on a passenger ship – Pax Ship Safety and Hull Integrity
    Training.
    13. Drill requirements.
    14. What is different between a muster list on a Class VII Cargo ship
    and a Class I pax vessel?
    15. Passage planning Rotterdam – Houston. You know all about
    APEM so don’t tell me about that, what are your considerations as
    Master?
    16. Ballast Water Exchange – UK legal position on BWC. BW
    exchange methods and requirements.
    17. What MARPOL requirements would you need to observe in this
    passage?
    18. What are the signs of an approaching TRS?
    19. How would you conduct the vessel to prepare for and avoid it?
    20. You have loaded in Nigeria and are now in passage to the UK.
    Two days into the voyage the Mate informs you that he has
    discovered two stowaways onboard. Actions?
    21. ISPS – Cert process and requirements?
    22. What is a DOS? When would you issue one?
    23. What is a Bill of Lading, why is it important?
    24. Would you sign a clean bill of lading under all circumstances?
    What would you do if you were unhappy with this?
    25. What is Noting Protest?
    26. What do you understand by General Average?
    27. What is SCOPIC?
    28. What sort of insurance does P&I provide?
    29. You had two problematic ABs who turn up late for watch and are
    missing form their place of work. How would you deal with
    them?
    30. Did the master have the ability to move directly to dismiss crew?
    Under what circumstances? How would you go about it?
    31. Contents of OLB?
    32. What else may you find in the OLB for a Class II Pax ship?
    33. Pilotage – Pilot-Master relationship. What is the role of the pilot in
    the bridge team?
    34. How would you deal with a Pilot you felt was
    35. not paying sufficient attention to what he was doing?
    36. How would you go about manoeuvring with tugs made fast?
    37. Other than Girting what are your considerations?
    38. Receive VHF DSC distress, actions?
    39. Collision with another vessel, what are you priorities as the
    Master? Reporting requirements?
    40. How does MAIB classify accidents?
    41. Attempted a screen share of a radar plot but tech failed his end.
    42. Tell me about how you would comply with Rule 19?
    43. That was the only RoR, no buoyage or smarties.
