    Examiner – Capt. Nowshad Jobair (1700-1845)
    Result- Pass (1st Attempt.)
    Exam started with formal introduction and explaining about cheating, safety and emergency protocol. He told me to keep my screen shared until the end of the examination
    Asked me about my last vessel and my experience and the company I am sailing with and the present rank. He then told me from now on you will answer all questions basis I am a master of UK flagged oil tanker. He mentioned my answer to his first question will be considered towards my final result of passing the oral exam therefore ensure you understand the question well before start answering.
    -Joining as master on an oil tanker discharging at UK port and how will you take over as master
    -When I started telling about the certificates, he asked me what you will be checking on your DOC certificate
    – In between he stopped me and asked which all international conventions affects a UK flag oil tanker. After answering him I continued with the certificates
    – He asked me what all things are there onboard to comply with your loadline certificate and how will you prepare for a loadline survey
    -Asked me about how the freeboard of my vessel determined and I went through all criteria for Type A ship in assigning the freeboard.
    – He asked me about bopic, Opic and wreck removal conventions and certification
    -Asked me about compass and the parts and checks and maintenance
    – Asked about co efficient B,C,D
    – He then told me your on a coastal passage my GPS and Gyro failed, How to fix your ships position,
    -At mid ocean the same happened and how will fix position.
    -He then asked me you gyro and log failed, what information on ARPA will be wrong and what else will be right
    – He asked me about then Annex 1 special areas and the requirements and certificates /plans you have onboard to comply with the same
    -Again continued with Annex VI and requirements, plans etc, tier 1,2,3 ,ECA areas and requirments
    -He said your vessel scheduled to proceed to dry dock and you have a new mate ,how will you help him in preparing the vessel for dry dock, cow washing ,tank cleaning ,purging and gas freeing ops were all covered.
    -He said the you have to do dry docking in china, how you will go about the same.
    – In-between he stopped and asked about Critical instant and critical period and how to calculate the same and how will I decide on the trim to enter the dock
    -He asked for your passage from uk to china for dry dock, your second mate called and told you that there is some area the ENC coverage is not available how will you deal with it. Spoke about MGN 285and MCA requirement for dual fuel mode on ecdis and RA
    – He then said third officer calls and tells he received a distress alert on VHF dsc and your in area A1,actions, Then he said mrcc assigned you as an OSC how will you carry out the rescue . All preparations and proceeding to rescue position search patterns and preps
    – Asked me to draw and explain running Mooring
    – He then shared his screen and showed me a situation, Overtaking

    -Next he showed me towing RAM vsl towing more than 200m,

    Then he showed me vsl heading 180T and right ahead (Port) West Cardinal and (Stbd) East Cardinal) Action

    He then shared screen again and ask me to transfer the information on the radar plot and find out course, speed, CPA, TCPA and aspect and action for one single target
    Radar Range: 5nm
    Own Vessl: 110T Spd : 5kts ,PI: 12min
    Target vessel : 077T 4.5nm,074T ,2.4nm, 077T 1.4nm

    That was it we have completed exam. he said you are pass. The most awaiting wonderful relief feeling, which do not have any words to express. Thanks to God, off course Capt.Vinil Gupta with his wonderful classes and notes. In addition, to all my online mates for group discussion.
