Introduction: 360deg of the room, Name, Date of Birth, Rank Applied for. Other General
intructions.
Syllabus as per MIN – 653
Call got disconnected twice.
Answer as Master of UK Flagged.
Checked Passport, CDC.
Clarified if I could take notes to frame my answer. She said you can but have to destroy the
same after completion of the exam.
Starts with the Exam.
1) Joining the ship as a master. What all things you are going to check from the wharf?
2) You have climbed the gangway what things you will check and whom will you meet?
3) Cleared security at the what will happen next?
4) Meet the Master, before you start the handover you would need to do something
before?
5) What would need to happen so you can walk around the vessel all alone?
6) What would you expect the outgoing to take over from the out going Master?
7) For the next voyage you mentioned provisions. What else you need to make sure is
sufficient?
8) Who other than class issues certificates? We went around alot on this and she
wanted to hear certificates are also issued by MCA.
9) What certificates are we talking about here? was interested in MCA certificates.10)
10) Safety Equipment certificate Explain?
11) Safety Management Certificate Explain?
12)Documents required in addition to the MLC Certificate?
13) Certificates required under MLC for Officers and Crew?

Feed Back on mistakes:
1) Ques 23 : Clear instruction for calling master in restricted visibility. Refer MGN 369
again.
2) Ques 24 : Compass adjusting there is guidance which is to be done every 2 years.
3) Ques 14 : Raise Non Conformity for Bosun .
4) Ques 47 : Action as per RV got confused with near the area so Fog signal not
switched on.
5) Radar Plot : TCPA from the initial plot. With course and speed.
6) Situations : Alter course to starboard for TSS question in situations.
This above is to best of my knowledge what I can remember, might miss out on few
questions.
I would like to thank all my Colleagues and Glasgow Maritime Academy to help me to
prepare for the Orals, very certain will get through next time. -
