Result: Pass
He logged in 10 mins prior to the exam start ?me and we went through the usual code of
conduct stuff. Then asked for Iden?fica?on of my documents. He started exam shortly aMer
that.
1. Asked me regarding my experience and then asked what type of cargoes have I carried
throughout my carrier.
2. Then asked me regarding my last ship. Name, GT, NT, trading area, number of crew onboard.
3. Informed me that from now onwards, I should consider myself as Master of a UK flagged
Bulk carrier and answer accordingly. How is ISM incorporated under the Bri?sh law and how
is it made mandatory under UK LAW.
4. How will you make sure that ISM is implemented onboard your vessel as a master?
5. How will you as a master mo?vate your crew?
6. What is the criteria to have SMS?
7. What is Declara?on of Security? When do you exchange it?
8. What documenta?on is covered under MLC? How does the company get MLC cer?ficate?
9. What all informa?on is included in DMLC Part 2?
10. Who signs SEA?
11. What is the defini?on of a young person? What are his rest hours?
12. What cer?ficates and documenta?on will you find onboard in reference to ISPS code?
13. What is CSR? How many types of forms are there? What does each of those forms contain?
14. Tell me what all annexes are covered under MARPOL?
15. What does MARPOL ANNEX I cover? Discharge criteria for it. What cer?fica?on and
documenta?on are required for it?
16. What does MARPOL ANNEX V cover? What cer?fica?on and documenta?on are required for
it?
17. What are the mandatory sec?ons of Official log book that have to be filled up?
18. Told me that you have received voyage instruc?ons for voyage from South Korea to
Brisbane, Eastern Australia. How will you do voyage planning as a master?
19. Now you are in Taiwan strait and you get the weather informa?on that a typhoon is
developing just in the path of your passage plan.
20. Heavy weather precau?ons that you will take into considera?on as a master?
21. Now during heavy weather, your chief cook was badly injured. AMer ini?al assessment, it is
decided that you need to MEDIVAC him. You are within helicopter range. How will you
prepare your vessel for MEDIVAC? AMer telling him all the answer for it, he asked me if I
would ?e the line to the ship that the Helicopter sends? NO.
22. During voyage, second officer calls you and tells that he has seen some floa?ng containers
close to your vessel’s posi?on, what would you do?
23. For what other type of dangers will you send master’s obligatory report?
24. Now your vessel is in dry dock, tell me what all considera?ons you will have to stop the
dangerous occurrences in dry dock? This was the ques?on which completely took me by
surprise. With all the informa?on I provided, He expected me to give a reference through
COSWP.
25. You are depar?ng a port and there are three tugs which are made fast fwd, midship and aM.
What advice will you give to your crew regarding carrying out these unberthing opera?ons?
26. What is PSC? How will the PSC inspect your vessel? What are the deciding factors for your
vessel to get inspected? What will be the inspec?on frequency for HRS?

1. Which rule states the various factors that are considered in deciding safe speed?
2. Which vessels can use the Traffic Separa?on zone?
3. Rule 19 tells something about “So far as prac?cable” what is it?
4. With reference to Rule 19, your 3rd officer is unable to assess the situa?on, what advice will
you give him?
5. Which rules apply in Restricted Visibility?

4. Fog signals
– RAM seen from portside more than 50 meters
– Vessel aground seen from port side.
– Fishing vessel with gear extending more than 150 meters
– CBD seen from portside
There were more lights than these but these are all that I could remember.
That was the end of my exam. -
